This T-shirt features a monochrome version of a printed photograph taken by Shoichi Aoki
-renowned photographer and editor of publications such as STREET, FRUiTS, and TUNE-
capturing the vivid atmosphere outside the venue of the Maison Martin Margiela Spring/Summer 1990 collection presentation, held in Paris on October 19, 1989.

The presentation took place in an empty lot surrounded by graffiti-covered fencing, located in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, a suburb known for its immigrant communities. Rather than designing conventional invitations, Margiela enlisted the help of local schoolchildren, who hand-drew pictures on pieces of brown cardboard,
inscribing them with “Martin Margiela / défilé été 1990.”
In appreciation, the children were invited to the show, where seats in the front row were reserved just for them.

The models, their hair styled in deliberately disheveled chignons, walked at the same level as the audience across a space covered by a large white tarpaulin.
They embraced the rough terrain beneath their feet, composed of rubble and broken concrete slabs.
The children, initially seated shyly at the feet of editors and buyers, soon became animated-walking alongside the models, holding their hands, even being carried on their shoulders-blending naturally into the performance itself. Outside the venue, uninvited journalists and photographers, aided by local residents, scrambled over walls in an effort to gain entry.

Amidst this electric atmosphere, it was Aoki who captured not only the models striding down the runway, but also the vibrant scenes outside and the diverse styles worn by the gathered crowd.
